Welcome Letter: Setting up Your Rice Accounts
New graduate students receive a welcome email after completing the acceptance process. It includes your Rice ID number, NetID, and instructions for activating your accounts.
- Activate your NetID
- Enroll in Duo two-factor authentication
- Set up Rice Gmail using your NetID@rice.edu
- Access Esther for registration and billing

Returning Students: Re-activating Your Accounts
Former Rice students who return for graduate programs can reactivate their existing NetID and Rice email at whooru.rice.edu.
Rice Email
All official university communication will be sent to your Rice Gmail account. Access it through Google Workspace for Education.
Beware of Email Scams
Rice will never ask for your password or personal details by email. Learn to recognize phishing at Phish Bowl or review the Security Awareness Guide (login required).

Bringing a Computer
Choose a computer that meets minimum requirements and has up-to-date antivirus protection. Your device should be capable of supporting course-related software and online learning tools.
