The following information provides steps for getting started with the technology, accounts, and resources available to Rice faculty and staff. This guide covers how to set up accounts, connect to networks, access key systems, and find help.

Tech Prep

How to Buy a Computer with Rice Funds

TSS staff can guide you in selecting equipment that meets university standards. Purchasing procedures vary by department, so check with your area’s coordinator. OIT can also assist with setup or specialized needs. Reach out to the TSS Help Desk for consultation.

Free or Discounted Software

Setting up Rice Email

Rice email accounts are provided through Google Workspace for Education, which includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and more. Duo authentication is required to access your account.

Beware of Email Scams

No one at Rice will ever ask for your password or verification details via email. If you suspect phishing, contact the OIT Help Desk before responding. See the Security Awareness Campus Guide (NetID login required) for more information.
